Cavernous

Tunnel book made up of seven black-and-white self-portrait images of the artist's mouth. When fully extended it appears that one is looking down her throat.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

A black box with a small hole through the center. Behind it are layers of images so that when a viewer looks through the hole they view an entire scene.

This book is an assemblage of connections between this imaginary locale and real time experiences. Matsunaga traces memories, recalling scenes from her domestic and international travels. Viewers observe the dream's reflection from the mirror, which includes a glimpse of their own eye.
