Open Educational Resources (OER)

SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) works to enable the open sharing of research outputs and educational materials in order to democratize access to knowledge, accelerate discovery, and increase the return on our investment in research and education.

The OER Digest is a bi-weekly newsletter for open education updates, opportunities, and reminders. The primary audience is the OER community in the United States and Canada, although subscribers come from all around the world. New editions are published every other Thursday.

WikiEducator is a dedicated global community of scholars, teachers and trainers who are committed to the collaborative authoring / development of open educational resources (OERs). Educators from across the globe are working together to build free OERs that can be used in a variety of teaching situations. These OERs can be re-contextualized and repackaged (outside the WikiEducator development environment) for use in their own teaching and learning situations.

In addition to housing a repository of OER, OER Commons also hosts various interest groups, hubs, and professional development resources such as labs and activities, video lectures, readings and more.

The OER Dynamic Coalition aims to support networking and sharing of information to create synergies around the 5 areas of action of the recommendation: (i) building capacity of stakeholders to create, access, re-use, adapt and redistribute OER; (ii) developing supportive policy; (iii) encouraging inclusive and equitable quality OER; (iv) nurturing the creation of sustainability models for OER, and (v) facilitating international cooperation. The Open Education Conference is an annual convening for sharing and learning about open educational resources, open pedagogy, and open education initiatives. This dynamic gathering celebrates the core values of open education that strive to realize education ecosystems that are accessible, affordable, equitable and inclusive to everyone, regardless of their background.

An annual celebration, Open Education Week (OE Week) is an opportunity for actively sharing and learning about the latest achievements in Open Education worldwide. OE Week provides practitioners, educators, and students with an opportunity to build a greater understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wonderful work being developed by the community around the world.

The Northeast OER Summit is a gathering of Open Educational Resources practitioners from the Northeast region of the United States.

This event will offer interactive concurrent sessions and workshop opportunities for participants to share evidence and best practices regarding how open learning, open pedagogical practices, and open educational resources are being leveraged in the service of student learning, student agency, and student success.

OpenStax offers free webinars featuring our staff, partners, and instructors who have used our textbooks to give you advice and support for using open educational resources (OER), OpenStax books, OpenStax Tutor Beta, and the additional resources that are available with OpenStax content.
