Communications Design

A guide supporting students and faculty in Pratt's Communications Design program

🔍 Searching for books in our online catalog

To find ebooks and print books, use the Research & Discover search bar on our homepage. Research & Discover search will also give you results for articles, streaming video, DVDs, zines and more, but you can limit your search results only to print books or ebooks.

Books not in our collection may be requested through our InterLibrary Loan (ILL) service.

If it's a book you think we should have in our collection, feel free to Suggest a Purchase.

🧭 Finding Books at the Library

Most books associated with graphic design are found in call number ranges beginning with 741.6.

At our Brooklyn Campus Library, books in the 741.6 range are located on floor 1M.

At our Manhattan Campus Library, books related to graphic arts are located on the shelves opposite the information desk.

Note that most of our collection materials related to graphic design are housed in the Brooklyn Campus Library, but we do have some books related to graphic design at our Manhattan Campus Library.

▶️ How to Find a Book (tutorial)

Created by librarian Alex Austin, this 2-minute video uses Animal Crossing animation to demonstrate how to find a book in our libraries. You'll learn how to find a book in the catalog and retrieve it from the shelf.

Don't forget: if you need help finding a book (or have any library-related questions), visit any research or circulation desk at either library location or use our Ask a Librarian live chat service. We are here to help!
