Whether you have access to microphones or simply your cell phone or computer, there are tools to make audio editing easier for you and ways to get the most out of the tools you have on hand.

Audio Recording and Editing Tools

Mac and Windows

  • Adobe Audition - A professional Audio editing software, part of the Adobe Creative Cloud collection. Full-time students and faculty members have free access to Adobe CC. Audition can be integrated with Premiere Pro for a more convenient video-editing workflow. Adobe provides tutorials for many aspects of using Audacity. (Information on how to download Adobe applications using your Pratt credentials can be found on the Pratt Intranet).
  • Audacity - this is a free application for audio editing and recording. For many users, it might be easier to use than Adobe Audition, especially for basic tasks like single-track voice recording. Audacity has step-by-step tutorials which can show you how to use the program.

Windows

  • Voice Recorder - a basic audio recording application built-in into Windows 10. It is very easy to use, and the only editing feature it offers is setting markers and trimming.
