International Students: A Guide to Using Pratt Libraries

The mission of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Pratt is to welcome, advocate for and serve our international community by providing high quality and expert service. OIA offers specific resources for new students, current students, returning students, and exchange students.

For international students, navigating career development can present additional challenges. The CCPD recognizes this, and is committed to developing programs and resources that support Pratt’s international students’ in achieving their professional goals. The CCPD regularly partners with the Office of International Affairs (OIA) to bring information resources addressing international student’s particular needs.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Pratt Institute is dedicated to creating a vibrant and inclusive campus community. It recognizes that diversity is fundamental to the institution’s mission and vision.

The Division of Student Affairs is focused on enhancing the students’ classroom experience by creating a sense of belonging and providing the support students need to be successful at Pratt. The Division of Student Affairs provides exciting opportunities for programming and community engagement; career, physical, and emotional wellness; and academic support and resources.

Pratt Institute offers support for students who are English Language Learners. The term English language learners (ELL), or English learners (EL), refers to students whose first language is not English but who are learning English. This support is offered for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Writing and Tutorial Center offers specialized support in English Language Learning through personalized tutoring and workshops in writing, speaking, artist statements, professional writing and other academic needs – including graduate theses. Meet with experienced academic professionals (primarily faculty and alumni) to help you through any part of English language learning and/or the writing process. The Counseling Center provides currently enrolled Pratt students confidential, and goal-oriented individual and group psychotherapy, assessment, consultation, and referrals to outside providers. We are staffed by licensed psychologists and clinical social workers, who specialize in working with young adults and have a wealth of experience in college mental health. In addition, a consulting psychiatrist is available for psychotropic medication evaluation.

Degree-seeking international students are eligible to work in on-campus student employment jobs at Pratt. This may include regular hourly paid work as a student employee and/or stipend work through a Graduate Assistantship. On-campus employment is limited to 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters, and can be up to 35 hours in Summer term or school breaks.

Pratt’s Learning/Access Center (L/AC) facilitates full access for Pratt students with disabilities so they can freely and actively participate in all facets of Pratt life. The L/AC collaborates to provide Institute-wide advisement and consultation on disability-related matters (including legal compliance and universal design) and provides individual services and tools to facilitate diverse learning styles and accommodations in a sustainable, inclusive manner.
