What is Civic Engagement?

Civic engagement is a broad term that can refer to community service, collective action and political involvement.

The Pratt Institute Library Research Starter on civic engagement defines the term as "the informed participation of citizens in their communities to identify public issues and effect change through both political and nonpolitical processes."

The purpose of civic engagement is to establish and work towards common goals within a community-- in this instance, within the Pratt Institute student body and staff. The goal of this LibGuide is to direct members of the community towards resources that help them participate in political and social engagement in and around the Institute.
