Freshman English Sources and Resources

A guide to the ways Pratt's library can help you get the most out of Humanities and Media Studies.

Getting to Know the Databases

Databases provide access to a great deal of material in a few specific places. It is handy to get to know Pratt's databases, not just for Freshman English but for every course you take here; chances are very good that someday you'll need something from one of them. You should also become familiar with the E-Journal search, which searches these databases for Pratt's access to journals that the library does not subscribe to in print.

The full list of databases and the E-Journal search can be found in two places on the library homepage, seen below (click to enlarge):

The list of Articles and Databases, along with the link to the E-Journal search, is found both under Find Resources and as a Quick Link. The following databases are particularly useful for Freshman English. The links to the right will take you to them via the proxy sign-in (use your Pratt OneKey for access), or explore the video tutorials below for search tips. And of course feel free to contact the Reference Desk (libref@pratt.edu, chat, or 718-636-3704) for assistance.

Humanities Full-Text and How to Search It

Humanities Full-Text is one of several databases owned by EBSCOhost. The video below shows how to search EBSCOhost in general, which can be adapted to Humanities Full-Text by choosing this database in the option shown here (click to enlarge):
