About Books, Periodicals and Ephemera
Special collections are used by all disciplines and programs at Pratt, so materials collected in this area span the full range of subjects, with an emphasis on art, design, and architecture. Types of materials retained and collected include rare and out-of-print monographs; early cookbooks; limited editions of seminal works in the fields of art, architecture and design; catalogues raisonne; special edition and pre-1950 art and architectural journals; broadsides and posters; pop-up books; trade catalogs; architectural treatises, plans and drawings; New York City guidebooks; and other major historical works in art, architecture, design, garden history, the art and history of the book, and the decorative arts. New acquisitions are generally made in collaboration with selectors assigned to specific departments and content areas.

Chizu by Call Number: 779 K22 C543 2021ISBN: 9781912339716Publication Date: 2021Kawada's 'The Map / Chizu' is the most famous and sought after book in the history of Japanese photography. Designed with the noted graphic designer Kohei Sugiura, Chizu has seen numerous editions since its original publication in August 1965. In November 2001, New York Public Library acquired the rarest version of the book, Kikuji Kawada's unique, handmade maquette.

As the wife and collaborator of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, she was expected to provide him with the material that was crucial for his modernist mission, whilst trying to carve out her own subjectivity as a writer. As an architectural critic she was one of the early voices articulating doubts about the path modernist architecture was taking, demystifying the myths of the masters, Mies, Le Corbusier and Gropius, and questioning their heroic, masculinist approach.
